American Wigeon (Mareca americana), 2cy male, 20 April 2019, Følle Bund, Denmark

Normally, American Wigeon (Mareca americana) develops white on the upper wing earlier than European Wigeon (M. penelope) so even though the current bird is a 2cy male, it already has a prominent white area on the upper wing. In the video, however, it is seen that some of the coverts within the white area have darker grayish centers, which is a clear sign that the bird is a 2cy and not 3cy+ male.
