Normally, American Wigeon (Mareca americana) develops white on the upper wing earlier than European Wigeon (M. penelope) so even though the current bird is a 2cy male, it already has a prominent white area on the upper wing. In the video, however, it is seen that some of the coverts within the white area have darker grayish centers, which is a clear sign that the bird is a 2cy and not 3cy+ male.
